TESTING CONDITIONS FOR ALL DISPOSABLE BATTERIES

  • 1. Temperature of 29.1 to 29.3C / Humidity of 52.2-52.8% (regulated by AC + (de-)humidifier)
  • 2. Discharge stops at 1.2V (0.9V under load) assuming the battery is dead
  • 3. Every test was conducted by taking the average of 8 of the same batteries of 4 different batches
  • 4. Both the best and worst performing battery of each test were excluded from Condition #3
  • 5. The mAh per Baht tests were done by taking the average of both 300mAh and 100mAh drain tests
  • 6. Every battery was sealed, unused and always min. 90 to max. 120 days old to simulate real-life store stock conditions

WHICH AA BATTERIES ARE THE MOST EFFICIENT?

In the above chart you will see that the Energizer Ultimate Lithium is able to produce the most mAh and the Germania Long Life which obviously also means a different price tag.

In order to measure which batteries are really the most cost efficient, I have used the collected data from above test results and calculated the Power per ฿1 Baht (mAh/฿) by using the retail prices of a single battery divided by the amount of 2, 4, 8, 12 or 60 batteries that come in a blister/box (whichever of them made the the price per single battery the cheapest to remain fair) of which I have made the following chart below.

AA BATTERY TEST CONCLUSION

It is clear from above results, that the cheaper Zinc Carbon batteries is not only no match against the power of Alkaline, but also in terms of cost effectiveness it also stands no chance against Alkaline. The simple conclusion would be to look at cost effectiveness and go for one of the 3 batteries that perform amazing for a low price.

Why this Test?

I'm only testing batteries out of my own curiosity and how I can save money and have shared my results online for the purpose of information sharing. I'm not affiliated with any of the brands that I have tested, neither do I want to be sponsored by any of them either. I have purchased all batteries for this project myself.

My personal thoughts about the results

It's hard to say which one is the winner, as some devices like camera's using flashlight simply require the expensive Lithium batteries. Unfortunately there is no other choice for other Lithium batteries. However, for the sake of saving money on batteries, I believe the top 3 shown above, which shows the most power (mAh) that I get per 1 Baht are the best for my wallet. However, I still prefer to go for rechargeable batteries, as they perform really well as well as the fact that disposable batteries are bad for the environment. Furthermore it was interesting to discover that 3 of the AAA batteries were able to provide more performance when the drain was higher. In order to rule out incorrect reports, I purchased more batteries.
Please note that despite having done my best to provide a fair test and testing conditions, there is always a chance of results being slightly off by perhaps 0.01-5.00 %. After all, a test can never be done with 100% accuracy, so the test results only reflect my own testing results and doesn't guarantee that you will get he same results.
